Former world No. 1 Karolina Pliskova and qualifier Camila Osorio advanced at the Qatar TotalEnergies Open on Monday, while Amanda Anisimova and Emma Raducanu were forced to retire due to illness. Pliskova, returning to the WTA Tour after a year-long absence due to an ankle injury, reached the third round of the Australian Open and the WTA 1000 in Doha. She dropped the opening set but rallied from 0-3 down in the second to force a tiebreak, which she won, sending the match to a decider. Anisimova, the defending champion, tried to continue after a medical timeout but retired trailing 4-1 in the final set. Osorio, ranked No. 80, also dropped the opening set against Raducanu but fought back to take the second set 6-4. In the third set, Raducanu received a medical timeout and retired while trailing 2-0. Pliskova's victory was her sixth over Anisimova in seven meetings and her first since 2022. Osorio's win was her eighth in a row on the pro tour, including two in the qualifying draw in Doha. The tournament continues with Pliskova awaiting the winner of Karolina Muchova and Tereza Valentova in the next round, while Osorio will face Katerina Siniakova in the second round.
