But here’s where it gets controversial: the outcome of Wood's qualifying situation has now been officially appealed. This appeal process is expected to linger beyond the day of the race, meaning that while he will take the grid for the Grand Prix from the front row, his placement remains provisional until the appeal is resolved.
According to the stewards’ official report, "The stewards have received a Notice of Intention to Appeal Stewards Decision #010, pursuant to Article 12.3.3.a of the 2026 FIA International Sporting Code. This decision suspends the penalty issued under Stewards Decision #010 until the appeal is heard, allowing car 40 to be reinstated in the Q3 results."
However, there's a catch: should Wood finish within the top three, he will not be allowed to participate in any podium celebrations or appear in the final classifications due to the ongoing nature of the appeal. The stewards clarified that, "As a consequence of car 40 exercising its right to appeal to the International Court of Appeal, Stewards Decision #010 is suspended but the 2026 International Sporting Code stipulates that driver Ryan Wood cannot take part in any prize giving or podium ceremonies pending the outcome of the appeal."
Interestingly, Ugo Ugochukwu, who is currently leading the Castrol Toyota Formula Regional Oceania Trophy standings, also faced repercussions for a technical infringement that resulted in his disqualification from both Q2 and Q3 sessions. As of now, it remains unclear whether Ugochukwu has chosen to pursue an appeal regarding his own situation.
